how to pray the word of god
Baby steps
Like many new Christians my prayer life began very simply and self-centered. You know, the kind of prayer that takes a few minutes and is all about me, me, me. What I want and what I need. Now don’t get me wrong, we all have to start somewhere and God hears our hearts cry, but I have been blessed with Pastors that have taught their congregation how to pray boldly with a grateful heart and I have seen the fruit of praying the word of God over my life.
Let your voice be heard
It’s important for you to pray out loud. Romans 10:17 tells us that “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” This means that as you speak the word, you hear the word and that builds up your faith in the word. As you pray the word of God out loud, you are building up your faith in God to answer your prayer. If you’re praying for healing and you are declaring what God says about healing in your prayer, then you are building up your faith for that healing. This is powerful!
Begin with god
When you pray, begin with God. Start by acknowledging the goodness of God. Begin to thank Him for all He has done for you. Thank Him for the cross and your salvation; for the simple things like a roof over your head, food in your fridge and a warm bed to sleep in. Thank God for His provision time and time again. Acknowledge who God is in your life. Your King, your strong tower, your firm foundation. He is your hiding place, your supernatural peace and joy, your provider and councilor. Beginning prayer in this way focuses our attention on Him instead of all our problems and cultivates a heart of gratitude.

Pray the word of god
Once your heart is in a place of worship, present your requests to God and do it with expectation reminding God of His word by praying the word of God. Knowing the word of God is so important. If you don’t know the promises that God has for you, then you can’t begin to declare them over your life. For example, if I’m needing/believing for financial provision to pay bills I would pray:
God’s word is His covenant with us and when we speak it out loud, we edify and build ourselves up.
